Description

An existing two-family row house in the South End historic district was restored to its glory days. Complete renovations were made to the interior, converting it to a single family home, while the rear of the house expanded out with a modern cantilevered addition. A roof deck was added for fantastic views of the Prudential and John Hancock Building. MASS Architect gained approval from the Zoning Board of Appeals and Historic Commission and worked with B.Haley Design Build from planning to finish. Paolucci previously revamped two restaurants with B.Haley Design Build: Idle Hour in Quincy, and The Automatic in Cambridge. Jess Haley from Rhode Architects provided interior design selections for this project.

Project Highlights:

Bradford Row House was featured in the Boston Design Guide article: Mass Architect Transforms a Historic Home in Boston. “In a row of tidy townhouses on Bradford Street in Boston’s South End, one townhouse makes a distinct impression. With its crisp lintels painted the perfect shade of gray to befit the newly repointed brick, the house is reminiscent of a couture suit amongst its neighbors— traditional and fresh at once… As the home was refreshed, its historic integrity was preserved. Stretches of rich, luminous wood grain bring warmth to accent walls and the kitchen island, a perfect juxtaposition to the crisp, masculine blues of the cabinets and millwork. The home’s rooftop deck is the icing on the cake, providing an intimate outdoor space to breathe and take in the city view.” After a referral from the 11 Bradford homeowners, MASS Architect was retained for a similar project next door at 13 Bradford Street and recommended FBN Construction as the general contractor.
