Driftway Ledge

This new custom home was designed to fit within an existing dilapidated house footprint on a narrow lot sloping toward the water. After countless design options, discussions with neighbors, and multiple trips to the zoning board of appeals, this project was approved to move forward with construction.

Description

The character of the home fits within the aesthetic of its surroundings and the height was adjusted to work within the zoning bylaw maximum and still allow all the neighbors to enjoy views of the water. The home features a large garage, 3- stop elevator up to a primary suite, and an open concept first floor with large sliding doors opening to a deck overlooking Hingham Bay.

Project Highlights:

Paolucci also designed an oversized shed in the backyard, mimicking features of
the existing house. The two-foot deep eaves shelter the home from water without the need for gutters and
downspouts. Standing seam metal roofing was used for accents on the smaller overhangs. Marvin casement
windows were specified throughout the house and a retractable awning was designed to be integrated with the
overhang above the sliding glass doors. Glass railings were utilized to maximize the view from the living area
out over the bay. The final touch lobster cut out shutters were added without approval from MASS Architect!
