Top Notch first introduced Nick to this project after the client cut ties with their previous architect. Prior to meeting, Nick researched the existing property and discovered the zoning bylaws would prohibit the size and style home initially desired. MASS Architect was hired shortly after the first meeting to discuss the client’s wishes for their new summer home. Since a sprawling shingle style home wouldn’t fit on their existing lot, the client sold their home and bought a larger tear-down lot down the street. Starting from scratch, Paolucci developed numerous plans, elevations, and 3D renderings inspired by photos shared by the client.
Coordination with Richard Pastore Engineering was essential in positioning the house on the lot and ensuring the correct floor elevations above the water table for conservation approval. Lysa Wilkins was then hired for the interior design, selecting finishes and fixtures. The home features two suites, two additional bedrooms, a great room over the garage, a grand foyer and main stair, sunlit office space and open first floor facing Narragansett Bay. In addition to the main house, MASS Architect was commissioned to convert the existing unfinished horse barn into a new pool house for guests. The new structure sat on the same footprint as the old and was designed to complement the main house.
