“Nick responded well with my wishes to keep the unusual and natural style of the former owners’ home. Thanks to Nick’s drawings and listening skills, I have my newest home which brings the beautiful outside spilling into the house!” – Client

Description

The Baker Bridge renovation completed with Essex Restoration features a new kitchen, master bath, and an open concept living and dining room. Nicholas Paolucci also designed a work shed that complements the main house and a new screened porch to replace the existing porch. Davidson Engineering provided the structural drawings. With a friend of the homeowner and fellow architect Mary Ann Thomson providing some initial conceptual ideas with sticky notes throughout the existing 1977 home, MASS Architect took the reins, providing all architectural drawings required for design and construction. New Marvin windows, doors and skylights were added along with new wood shingle siding and roofing to freshen up the exterior.

Project Highlights:

Baker Bridge was featured in Builder+Architect Magazine January 2021 issue with Essex Restoration as builder of the month. The article stated “This house was originally built in the 70s. Our client, relocating from her New Hampshire farmstead, brought us in to totally renovate the home…Nick worked closely with the new homeowner to understand her needs and vision. Nick is exceptional at what he does – smart, creative and a fast thinker. He was able to design a space that was really personal to her…Existing walls and posts on the first floor challenged the overall flow of space, while likewise hindering the flow of sunlight. By eliminating dead space on the second floor and adding skylights lower on the roof, sunlight was finally able to penetrate the first floor. It now floods the space, lighting up what had previously been dismally dark.” Walter Bebe-Center was the first builder Paolucci partnered with in a design-build fashion as Essex’s in-house architect from 2016-2018. Walter and Nick have completed dozens of projects and continue to have a great working relationship.
